For home and business owners who are facing small to medium size repair projects that would benefit from spray foam insulation have discovered they can handle the problem on their own without spending good money for a hired contractor.  With DIY spray foam insulation kits, these people would simply choose the right type of foam and the quantity needed for the job, followed by reading the instructions for use and fixing the damage.

Spray foam insulation kits designed for the everyday person are not only affordable and easy to find, but with a few instructions, also easy to use.  Most people use DIY spray foam insulation kits to seal windows and doors so in the winter, the home stays warmer and in the summer, cooler.  Obviously, this means the indoor environment would be far more comfortable but it would also result in the high cost of utilities to be decreased dramatically.  However, spray foam insulation can be used for hundreds of other purposes so it would be important for people to avoid limiting the possibilities.

Although these DIY spray foam insulation kits are made for standard home and business owners, there is some risk involved so the most important thing is to always wear eye protection in the form of goggles, a face mask so odor is not inhaled, and gloves to protect the hands.  Additionally, wear long sleeves and long pants to protect vulnerable parts of the body.  From there, the kit would be purchased and for materials, a bullet heater and wrench would need to be on hand.

For starters, the surface and tank that comes with the DIY foam insulation kit should be touched lightly to make sure temperature is anywhere from 65 to 80 degrees.  If the surface were cool to the touch, and bullet heater would help heat it.  However, if the surface were too hot to the touch, it would be important to give it time to cool down before using.

After that, the area where the spray foam insulation would be used needs to be properly prepared.  For this, the goal is to eliminate any dust and debris so the foam would have a clean smooth surface on which to adhere.  Next, the actual equipment used needs to be prepared.  With the wrench, the spray hose that comes with the kit would be attached to the tank that comes with the kit.  When done, the valves would be turned in a counterclockwise direction to open.

For actual application, a thin layer of the foam spray would be sprayed onto the prepared work area.  Regarding the correct amount, you want the foam to cover with an even and uniform layer but not a glob sprayed on.  Think of using a spray can and the way you would move back and forth in a controlled manner to apply paint.  For applying spray foam, the same process would be used.  Next, the sprayed on foam would need to be allowed to rise and dry completely.  Typically, this process takes about 30 minutes but the manufacturer’s information should be followed.

You should then go back over the area, looking for any thin or missed areas that would need to be redone.  To do this, simply spray more foam insulation on the area, allowing the foam to rise and dry as before.  When satisfied with the job, turn the valves off using the wrench and detach the hose.  Finally, the DIY spray foam insulation kit should be stored properly.  For this, make sure it is safely out of reach of children but also pets.  If you have any chemicals left, they can be used for an amount of time but it would be imperative they be locked away for safekeeping in a cool, dry area.
